| Hop field |
Today, we drove to Ittingen in Switzerland and visited a small village near a small hop field. Germany is the number one producer of hops in the world, the US come second! For those of you who are not familiar with hops (I wasn't until today), they are the female flower clusters of a hop species. They are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer, to which they impart a bitter, tangy flavor, though hops are also used for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine.
